You want to make you have certain items handy in your garage, so you don’t have to wonder where they are when you need them later.

The blog will help you learn more about how to make sure you know where everything is located for when you need it.

Store items properly in the garage

You need to make sure that everything is stored in the right locations, so you will have an easier time finding what you need in the garage. This often means changing out certain items as we start to transition from summer to fall and then into winter, of course.

Also, you may want to remove some items that you no longer use. You could opt to give things to charity or to recycle some items to help save space and make organizing easier.

What’s needed for winter?

1. Do you have a snowblower?

If you are fortunate enough to have a snowblower, you will want to make sure that it is working properly before the first snow. Get a tune-up and make sure the oil has been changed.

2. Are the snow shovels ready to use?

A great example of stored shovels in the garage.

Do you have your snow shovels in a location that’s easy to reach? Are the shovels in good condition? Make sure that the handles are in good shape, so they don’t break when you start shoveling heavy snow.

3. Are the melters and abrasives ready?

You should always make sure you have a full bag of rock salt for the winter. You should also have a bag of sand or abrasive gravel, which can help reduce the risk of slipping and falling on icy spots on the walkways, driveway, and other areas of the house.

4. Is your emergency generator ready?

You should have an emergency generator if you are in a location that gets power outages in the winter or other times of the year. Make sure that your generator is in good working order and that you have a full gas can in case there is a power outage.

Additionally, make sure that you never run your generator in the garage. It should be outside. The exhaust from the generator has carbon monoxide, which can poison you and your family, causing illness and even death.

5. Is your car ready for the winter?

Some of the things that you will want to have for your vehicle includewindshield washer fluid and snow brushes and ice scrapers. Keep the brushes and scrapers in your car. You will also want to have some jumper cables ready in case you need them.

6. Fun items for the kids and adults alike

Neat ski equipment storage

The winter isn’t all about being cold and scraping ice off the car. It can be fun, too, so make sure that you have some sleds and toboggans and hang them in a location where the kids can get to them easily.

Remember all of the other sports equipment too, such as skiing gear, hockey items, and more. Check out these 5 great tips for storing winter equipment from Nuvo Garage.

How is the garage door working?

Make sure your garage door is ready, just like you make sure your car is ready for winter.

Winter is a season of surprise.

It’s possible to get a blizzard one day, followed by freezing rain the next. Overnight, the temperatures can dip to 5ºF (-15ºC), which means you suddenly find the weatherstripping at the bottom of your door is stuck in ice.

You need to be sure your garage door is in shape. When was the last time it had a good tune-up?

You shouldn’t wait until a blizzard hits and you suddenly realize your door isn’t ready.

You always want to be safe, not sorry. GARAGA dealers can provide you with a 26 point inspection, adjustment, and lubrication program for your garage door system.
