The Handyman Dream Garage

Handyman

Are you an avid do‑it‑yourselfer? If so, you’ll definitely want to have a garage full of must‑have tools and designed to be a productive workspace. Let’s take a look at the must‑haves of any handyman’s garage.

Must Have Tools

Workbench:

  • It really all starts here. This is your base and if you don’t have enough space, everything else becomes harder.
  • Take a look at your space and your budget to decide if you want to build one or buy one.

Cat’s Paw:

  • This is basically a crowbar on steroids. This nail puller / crowbar hybrid is cheap and will come in handy in most demo projects. Any handyman garage needs something to break things with.

Miter Saw:

  • Whether you’re framing a basement or building a deck, this tool will pay for itself through saved‑labour immediately.
  • You don’t have to spend a lot of money on these. But you can pay a bit more for extras like a laser sight for the perfect cut each time.

Anything with a Lithium‑ion Battery:

  • Cordless is good. And a rechargeable long life is better.
  • Whether it’s your drill, sander, or saw, you will appreciate the convenience. Nobody likes fumbling with cords, or having a weak battery pack that won’t last for an entire task.

Polyurethane Air Hoses:

  • If you’ have a nail gun, you might find yourself going through a lot of hoses, or deal with annoying hose‑coiling.
  • These hoses are durable and don’t coil. They obviously cost more, but they’re worth the investment.

A Dust Collector:

  • This is another tool that doesn’t seem like a big deal, until you have one.
  • The first benefit is an overall increase in air quality while you cut / work. The second is a big reduction in clean up time.

Beer Fridge:

  • Because you can’t work in there ALL the time. A Ping pong table also falls into this category.

Must Have‑Extras

Heat:

  • Is your garage heated? If not, this is a very worthwhile addition.
  • This is also a good idea if you’re looking to use the space for more than a workshop. You open the door for it to be a studio, gym, or even man cave.

Shelves:

  • These are the ultimate space-saver and junk organizer. They’re also the best way to keep your sporting goods and Christmas decorations out of your workspace.
  • You can either build your own or find the perfect pre‑fab model.

Satellite Receiver:

  • You can have the game on in the background while you work, or even host game night at your place. Just make sure you read the previous point about heat.
  • You don’t even need a big TV out there. But you may want one.
  • While you’re thinking about what to put in your perfect handyman garage, it might also be time to think about upgrading your garage door. A durable and insulated door can lead to a more comfortable workspace. Fill out our form for a free quote!
